Captain LeRoy Reinburg, Jr., U.S. Coast Guard–Retired

LeRoy Reinburg, Jr., was born in Washington, D.C., and graduated from the Baltimore LeRoy Reinburg, Jr. (USCG-Ret), 1976Polytechnic Institute in 1941. He attended the Johns Hopkins University until 1942, when he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard as an Apprentice Seaman.

In 1944, he was appointed a Cadet in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut. He was commissioned an Ensign in 1948.

During more than thirty years in the Coast Guard, Captain Reinburg served on the following Coast Guard Cutters: WINONA, CLOVER, ESCANABA, MAGNOLIA, IRONWOOD, and PONTCHARTRAIN. These ships operated in various parts of the Pacific, including Alaska, the West Coast, Hawaii, the Trust Territories of the Pacific, Vietnam, and other parts of Asia. He commanded the MAGNOLIA, IRONWOOD, and PONTCHARTRAIN.

He served on the staff of the following Coast Guard District Commanders, THIRD, ELEVENTH, and FOURTEENTH.

He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Telecommunications. He was also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in National Security. He held a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and an M.S.A. from the George Washington University.

He was the recipient of various awards including the Bronze Star Medal for service in Vietnam, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal World War II, The Secretary of Transportation Commendation for Achievement Award, the National Defense Service Medal (two awards), the Arctic Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Civic Action Award with Palm, the Republic of Vietnam Unit Commendation (Gallantry Cross), and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation.

He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1976 and then worked as a Marine Safety Consultant.

He was a life member of the American Legion and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a Perpetual member and member of the General Staff Emeritus of the Military Order of the World Wars; a Golden Life Member of the U.S. Naval Institute; and a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, The George Washington University Alumni Association, the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association, the Association of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Institute of Navigation.

Captain Reinburg married Marjorie Fayard in 1951. They had six children: Virginia, Molly, Claire, LeRoy, Mary, and Nora (who died in 2007), and eight grandchildren. Marge died in 1990. In 1993, he married Marie (Mitzi) Yates. Captain Reinburg died in 2010.
